Within the framework of Sustainability Thematic Week*, the students of 12th grade of Fészek Waldorf Iskola, Gimnázium és Alapfokú Művészeti Iskola, Solymár joined in an online lesson focusing on the sustainable consumption. This subject was explored with the support of the Wasteless’ group of Nébih. The virtual lesson plan consisted of different topics from sustainable food consumption, through food waste prevention to raising awareness of sustainable lifestyle.
Students were interested in the environmental impacts of food waste. Many questions were rasied about the measuring methods of food waste generated in households. Furthermore, the food safety risks connected to food waste prevention were presented.
In addition, the instructor was asked about the different specialities of Néhih concerning education and integrated food chain safety authority activity. Students were eager to know how these fields are connecting each other. As they expressed, we would have like to know, what the relation is between ‘unexpected control of manufactories’, ‘unveiling of dicey food processing plants’ and raising awareness of sustainable consumption.
* The Ministry of Human Capacities launched the “Sustainability Thematic Week” initiative in 2016. Hungarian primary and secondary schools can join the programme. The aim of the “Sustainability Thematic Week” is raising awareness of sustainable lifestyle and providing insight into the risks threatening the Earth. Connecting to the initiative, Nébih regularly organises lessons and events for children and young people to spread the environmentally friendly solutions along the whole food chain.
