Wasteless Afternoon: Celebrating 10 Years of Food Waste Prevention

The Wasteless Afternoon was held at Millenáris-Széllkapu Park in Budapest on 18 September 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of the Wasteless Program.

The free public event attracted more than 400 visitors, providing an opportunity for families to learn about food waste prevention, conscious consumption and sustainability through interactive activities. Visitors could take part in quizzes, challenges and creative workshops focused on practical food waste prevention.

Several of the Wasteless Program’s partners contributed their own activities, including MiReHu Nonprofit Ltd., Munch, Szupermenza and the Hungarian Red Cross. The National Food Chain Safety Office’s (Nébih) Educational Programme and the Kertművelő gardening programme also took part in the event. Visitors could collect stamps by completing activities at the different stands, with those collecting all six stamps receiving a small gift and the opportunity to enter a raffle.

The event also featured the first public appearance of Fridzserika, the life-size mascot of the Wasteless Program. The fridge robot mascot helped bring the food waste prevention message closer to families and younger audiences in a playful and memorable way.

As part of the event, visitors could also explore the Wasteless Street Exhibition, displayed along the nearby Nébih fence. The exhibition presented selected works from the Program’s previous creative competitions, highlighting the causes and consequences of food waste as well as possible solutions.

The event demonstrated the value of interactive, family-oriented public engagement in raising awareness about food waste prevention. More than 400 people took part in the activities, providing an opportunity to reach new audiences and communicate practical messages about more conscious food consumption.

The Wasteless Program thanks its partners, contributors and all visitors who helped make the 10th anniversary event a successful occasion.
