As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the Hungarian food waste prevention programme, Wasteless launched a nationwide mascot design competition to create a friendly and recognizable character that can help spread awareness about reducing food waste.
The competition attracted great interest, with 387 entries submitted by children, teenagers and adults from across the country. Participants designed creative characters connected to the message of food waste prevention. Winners and audience award recipients received gift vouchers from toy and electronics stores.
Following the evaluation process, the professional jury selected Fridzserika, created by Erika Tukacs, as the official mascot of the programme.
Meet Fridzserika
Fridzserika is a friendly refrigerator robot who helps households reduce food waste. Equipped with a built-in tablet, she keeps track of food stored in the fridge, reminds us when products are approaching their expiry date, and suggests recipes to make use of ingredients before they go to waste.
Her character represents the key values of the Wasteless programme: conscious food management, proper food storage, and practical solutions for preventing food waste at home.
In the coming months, Fridzserika will come to life as an official mascot costume and is also planned to be produced as a plush toy, helping to promote food waste prevention through educational events and awareness-raising activities across Hungary.
