Wasteless drawing competition: Granny Says

Food is a strong family bond in Hungarian housholds, which the Project Wasteless utilizes by announcing a drawing contest this year as well, following the success of last year’s competition. The current competition focuses on practical tips that can be learned from grandparents, which help reduce food waste and promote good household practices across generations. The deadline for submission of artworks by primary and secondary school students is 25 July. The creators of the most outstanding entries will receive valuable prizes and have the opportunity to showcase their works in a street exhibition for the general public.

The “Granny Says” drawing contest supports one of the key objectives of Project Wasteless: to promote awareness among students about preventing food waste and ensuring food safety. Through cooking activities with their grandparents, children can learn about ingredients, kitchen utensils, the importance of measurement and portioning, as well as the significance of hygiene. These experiences not only enhance their creativity, problem-solving and time management skills, but also contribute to the development of healthy and sustainable eating habits and respect for food.

Team Project Wasteless aim to encourage as many children and young people as possible to share their personal experiences and lessons learned from their grandparents regarding kitchen practices, especially in reducing food waste, through their drawings during the summer school break.

The competition is open in 3 age categories:

  • lower primary school
  • upper primary school
  • secondary school

The deadline for submitting artworks is 25 July.

The winners chosen by a professional jury, the public’s favourites and the most active educational institution will also be rewarded with valuable gifts, which are provided by the stakeholders of the project. Furthermore, an exhibition featuring the most outstanding artworks will be held at the National Food Chain Safety Office’s headquarters in Budapest.
